Una Borinqueña en Florida is a Spanish language program, appropriate for children from Puerto Rico and Latin America who have come to Florida due to natural disasters, violence, or other traumatic experiences.

This digital program features three vignettes that address some of the feelings and experiences immigrant students may recognize. The characters validate emotions that young audiences feel and demonstrate positive actions they can take to feel better.

The video length is 24 minutes. It includes three vignettes.

PARTE I: ¡Somos Puertorriqueños! (PART I: We are Puerto Ricans!)

Synopsis: Amaya and Emilio share their experiences during the hurricanes that devastated Puerto Rico. They talk about things they do to feel better when they remember the scary experience.

PARTE II: ¡Somos Latinos! (PART II: We are Latinos!)

Synopsis: Amaya goes to her new American school, but she doesn’t understand the teacher who is speaking English. Maricruz, who is from Mexico and bilingual, translates for Amaya. Many students will identify with the role of translator for friends and family. The girls learn from each other about the similarities and differences between food and culture in Puerto Rico and Mexico.

PARTE III: En Casa: Sueños y Deseos para el Futuro (PART III: At Home: Dreams and Wishes for the Future)

Synopsis: Amaya and her little brother Jose Alejandro miss their home and family in Puerto Rico. It is okay to have different emotions like sadness and anger. Amaya and Jose Alejandro show that through play and creating artwork, they can express their feelings and start to feel better.

AFTER THE SHOW: It is highly recommended that the program be followed with their ESOL teacher, guidance counselor, or other Spanish speaking educator leading an interactive Discussion/Q&A session. The discussion allows the children to ask questions, share their own stories, and learn that they are not alone.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy – If a School needs to cancel a DIGITAL performance by MicheLee Puppets, Inc., the School must notify MicheLee Puppets of the cancellation, in writing, at least two (2) business days prior to the scheduled performance date in order to receive a full refund of the funds paid by the School to MicheLee Puppets. If the cancellation is within the two (2) day period, the funds paid to MicheLee Puppets shall be forfeited by the School. Additionally, MicheLee Puppets reserves the right to cancel a performance. If MicheLee Puppets elects to cancel a performance, MicheLee Puppets will attempt to reschedule the cancelled performance with the School at a mutually convenient and appropriate time. If it is not possible to reschedule the performance, the funds paid by the School to MicheLee Puppets will be refunded to the school in full. In the event of a natural disaster (e.g., hurricane, flood, etc.) forcing the closure of the School, MicheLee Puppets will not require the two (2) business day advance cancellation notice.
Further, in the event of a natural disaster resulting in closure of the School and the cancellation of the performance, MicheLee Puppets will attempt to reschedule the cancelled performance with the School at a mutually convenient and appropriate time. If it is not possible to reschedule the performance, a full refund of the funds paid by the School to MicheLee Puppets will be issued. In no event shall MicheLee Puppets be responsible for the payment to the School of more than the funds paid by the School to MicheLee Puppets.
