Teaching Artist, Laura Courter has developed a folktale writing residency that will have your students engaged in creative drama activities resulting in writing their own folktale.  Using the concepts of Character, Location (setting), Action (Elaboration) and Plot students will use acting exercises each day to create a well-organized folktale. Each day, students will act and write and the final day of the residency their stories will be performed in their classroom setting.

This residency 1) supports their reading and understanding of the genre of folk tales; 2) teaches the use of describing words in written expression; 3) teaches students how to organize and write a creative folk tale; 4) encourages the personal interpretation of the expressive qualities of art;  5) uses culture and environment as inspiration for creating art; 6) uses real and imaginary subject matter in works of art.
