Teatro for the Soul

This is an arts-based language immersion program. The instruction is primarily conducted in the target language. Students are encouraged to use the language in their interactions, both inside and outside the classroom. This approach helps develop language skills in a natural and authentic way, as students are exposed to the language in real-life contexts.

This residency program creates an environment where learners are constantly exposed to and encouraged to use the target language. This immersive experience helps develop language proficiency, cultural understanding, and overall language fluency. It is often seen as a highly immersive and engaging way to learn a new language.

Production: La vida es sueno (Life is a Dream)

“La vida es sueño” is a fundamental work of Spanish literature and one of the most important plays of the Golden Age. Due to its cultural and historical significance, it is common for students of Spanish and culture to study it in their academic programs. Here are some reasons why “La vida es sueño” is important for Spanish and culture students:

1. Representation of Baroque theater: The play is an outstanding example of Spanish Baroque theater, allowing students to become familiar with the characteristics, themes, and style of this artistic period.

2. Language study: By reading and analyzing the play, students can improve their language skills in Spanish. The richness of the language and the poetic structure of the text provide an opportunity to expand vocabulary and gain a better understanding of the complexities of the Spanish language.

This Residency Program will allow AP Spanish students to delve into Spanish literature and culture, improve their language skills, explore philosophical themes, and develop skills in literary and critical analysis.
