Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

Our School Series helps energize the classroom by connecting the arts to what Pre-K-12 graders are already learning in school.

Shows produced by nationally and internationally touring youth theater companies bring common-core concepts, characters from history and literature to life in one-hour, school day matinees. Selected shows provide a perfect opportunity to introduce students to cultural music, dance, and theater artists from around the world.

Harriet Tubman and The Underground Railroad

Program description

Celebrate Black History Month with this wonderful production of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. This stirring drama with music is a classic tribute to the great American who freed herself and hundreds of her people from the bonds of slavery.

As Harriet and her friend, Sarah Bradford, narrate her adventurous life,we share in the joys, sorrows, and challenges faced by this brave woman who changed the world through her courage. Accurate and deeply moving, Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad is at turns inspiring, heart-warming, and comical, full of good humor, determination and the charity of its subject. Your students will find a new appreciation for Harriet Tubman and a deeper understanding of her times.
