Fairy Tale Writing and Acting
In one week Laura Courter will help your students will create, as a class, their very own Fairy Tale! Using the organizational method CLAP: C (character), L (Location/Setting), A (Action), P (Plot).
Writing is combined with Creative Dramatic techniques as the students act out characters from Fairy Tales, settings from Fairy Tales, and use acting to devise the action and plot of their stories. On the last day of the residency the students will perform their Fairy Tale as a class!
This residency 1) teaches the use of describing words in written expression; 2) models the use of different kinds of sentences; 3) teaches students how to write a creative fairy tale; 4) encourages the personal interpretation of the expressive qualities of art; 5) teaches students how to draw concepts and ideas from other subjects; 6) uses culture and environment as inspiration for creating art; 7) uses real and imaginary subject matter in works of art
Program Objectives:
1) Students will be presented with an easy-to-remember method for writing Fairy Tale
2) Students will be given a solid theoretical understanding of Fairy Tale writing: character (who), location (setting), action (what) and problem (why).
3) Students will be taught to create and visualize dramatic situations to use as ideas for writing.
